One look at the job advertisements found in the major newspapers suffices to perceive that graduates who want to have a good chance on the job market should, besides excellent expert knowledge, have a good command of key competencies.

These “soft skills” are difficult to facilitate through theory alone, thus at the University of Duisburg-Essen we break new ground: Student’s commitment for the common good in regional non-profit organizations is initiated by us, so young people can contribute and practice their professional knowledge in “real life”.

And that is not all: UNIAKTIV aims at making voluntary commitment and service learning an integral part of teaching and learning at the University of Duisburg-Essen – a concept everyone involved benefits from.
